We accompany Jose Manuel Serrano to the site of St Regis

Mexico holds one of the most impressive projects Humiclima is currently developing

How long have you been in Mexico? And abroad?

  • I arrived to Cancun in May 15, 2016, previously I had been working in Kingston, Jamaica for 15 months.

What are your tasks within a site?

  • As a manager, any given day my duties would be developed as follows: verify that all personnel has arrived, supervise the work performed by subcontractors, reassess tasks if required, watch out in order to anticipate any work, resolve issues, purchasing management, etc.

What is new to you face in a new project?

  • I'm just starting in this project St Regis, but one of the novelties I have found out is related to how to submit the information required by the customer accompanied by extensive documentation to be attached, and we reviewed step by step, on site, every item we certify.

You work on projects where there are many people involved, many companies. How do you organize to maintain calm?

  • Even though we are many in each of the projects we try to share responsibilities and work together.

You've been working on a project like Palladium another as the St Regis, what's different about them?

  • No two projects are the same, you will always find differences, although these two projects as they are located in the same region are quite similar. At Palladium I was responsible for the mechanical installations (heating, ventilation, plumbing, drainage and fire protection), meanwhile at St Regis I will handle with both mechanical and electrical installations.

How about the similarities?

  • As I mentioned before there are quite similarities between projects, on a daily basis our work change very little, because we have a team which, mostly, we have already worked together on Palladium with and being both projects located in Mexico regulations regarding installations are quite similar.

Despite your experience, what surprise you when you begin again a project.

  • I am still surprised that even though we already are in 2019, there is a long way to go in terms of security measures, above in some sectors. We must improve all this.

What differences do you find between Spain and Mexico?

  • There are great social differences in Mexico and a lot insecurity depending on what places and at what times.

Has there been any "culture shock"?

  • Yes, for me especially in terms of gastronomy, I have not adapt myself yet to spicy, as a tip if you are given to try a few sauces, if said it is not spicy, put just a drop, if said it is just a little spicy, do not try it.

Mexico can not be compared to..

  • If we talk about the area where I live, Cancun, I would not trade for anything its beaches and turquoise waters.
